Creative Writing

Brief Description of Course: A writing workshop devoted to short stories and poetry. Class discussion, writing assignments, and readings will focus on strategies and techniques related to narrative voice, structure, genre, characterization, dialogue, and research.

Required Reading: Classmates’ writing; selections of published fiction and poetry.

Method of Instruction: Workshop.

Method of Evaluation: Short writing assignments (30%); workshop submissions (20%); written peer feedback (10%); class presentation (5%); class participation (15%); final portfolio (20%).

NOTES: Admission is by permission. To be considered, please submit the application form and 12-15 pages of poetry (single-spaced) and/or short fiction (double-spaced, no excerpts) in hard copy to Ms Vala Holmes in the Department of English by May 16, 2016.
