Brief Description of Course:  For the most part we’ll be looking at picture books and novels from 1960’s-1970’s, especially those featuring stories of friendships.

Required Reading: Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are, Outside Over There, In the Night Kitchen; William Steig, Amos and Boris, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, The Amazing Bone, Brave Irene; Arnold Lobel, Frog and Toad Storybook Treasury; James Marshall, George and Martha the Complete Stories; others TBA.

First Three Authors/Texts: Maurice Sendak; William Steig; James Marshall.

Method of Evaluation:
Participation and contribution to discussion, research proposal and outline, research paper, response papers every two weeks.
