Brief Description of Course:  To deal with time limitations and to avoid overlapping with other courses taught in the Department of English, we will engage in a detailed study of six significant poets from the United States, Northern Ireland, and Australia..

Required Reading: Ammons, Garbage (Norton, 1993—e-text available through U of T Libraries); Ashbery, Selected Poems (Penguin, 1985); Graham, The Dream of the Unified Field. Selected Poems 1974-1994 (Ecco, 1995—e-text available through U of T Libraries); Muldoon, Moy Sand and Gravel (FSG, 2002); Rankine, Citizen. An American Lyric (Graywolf, 2014); Kinsella, Drowning in Wheat (Picador, 2016).

First Three Authors/Texts: Ammons, Ashbery, Graham

Method of Evaluation: Six quizzes 25% (5% each; only your best five scores will count); term paper 30%; final exam 30%; participation 15%.
