Sally-Beth MacLean is currently Director of Research and General Editor of the Records of Early English Drama as well as Professor Emerita at the University of Toronto. Her primary research interests are Medieval and Renaissance Theatre History and the development of digital resources for wider dissemination of interdisciplinary discoveries in the field. She has been closely engaged in the editing and research direction of the Records of English Drama series (33 volumes to date) since the project was founded and has initiated and directed three open access research and educational digital projects, the Patrons and Performances Web Site, launched in 2003; Early Modern London Theatres, launched in 2011 and The Fortune Theatre Records, a prototype digital edition, launched in 2013. Her book co-authored with Scott McMillin, The Queens Men and Their Plays (Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, 1998) won the Sohmer-Hall prize from the Globe Theatre for best book published in 1998 on early English theatre and staging and inspired the SSHRC-funded Shakespeare and the Queen's Men performances and conference (2006) and educational website and related digital editions for the Internet Shakespeare Editions. With Lawrence Manley, she has just published a new book, Lord Strange's Men and their Plays (Yale University Press: New Haven and London, 2014).
As Patrons and Performances co-director and content developer for the interactive historical map of provincial touring routes and newly researched data on provincial performance venues for English counties, she is also working on the addition of GIS mapping for early modern Southwark to extend the capacity of the website.
