Haruko Momma is the Angus Cameron Professor of Old English Language and Literature and Professor of Medieval Studies and English at the University of Toronto. She has a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from the University of Toronto. Before returning to Toronto to assume the position of the Chief Editor at the Dictionary of Old English project in 2017, she had taught at New York University for twenty-five years. Momma is the author of The Composition of Old English Poetry (Cambridge University Press, 1997) and From Philology to English Studies: Language and Culture in the Nineteenth Century (Cambridge University Press, 2012). She has also co-edited A Companion to the History of the English Language (Wiley-Blackwell, 2008) and published various essays on early medieval English language and literature, the history of language studies, and medievalism. She has been offered honors and fellowships from, among other institutions, the American Council of Learned Societies, Yale University’s Whitney Humanities Center, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the National Humanities Center, and the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study. She has taught a wide range of courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels and also supervised many honors theses, M.A. theses, and doctoral dissertations.
