A world on the move! A world of walls?

JHB 100 - April 27th and 28th, 2016 - University of Toronto, Department of English

Globalization. Transnationalism. Flows. Of people. Of capital. Displacement. Shifting ecologies. Turns of speech and thought.

Drift. Texts in transit. Forms in transition. Critical mapping—remapping.

Technologies of movement and contact. Technologies that let us never leave home.

Are we “loos’d of limits and imaginary lines” like the poet Walt Whitman? Do we raise a glass with Guillermo Gómez-Peña and "toast to a borderless future"? Maybe we envision a time of barricades. Maybe we scan the horizon with Deleuze and Guattari for "lines of flight" somewhere...

Movements & Migrancies, this year's conference at the University of Toronto's Department of English, aims to showcase graduate student research and offer a forum for discussing themes of migration and movement across diverse time periods, disciplines, and literatures. Please see the Call-for-Papers for more information. We look forward to seeing you in Toronto in April 2016!
