“What the Son Doesn’t Know Won’t Kill Him: Redemption and the Political Theology of Paradise Lost”
John Rogers

John Rogers (Ph.D. Yale 1989) is Professor of English at Yale University. He is the author of the award-winning book, The Matter of Revolution: Science, Poetry, and Politics in the Age of Milton (Cornell 1996), and two new books, Milton’s Poetry and the Politics of Liberalism (forthcoming), and Latter-Day Milton: Paradise Lost and the Creation of America’s God (forthcoming). He is one of only two scholars to have won the Milton Society of America’s Hanford essay prize twice, most recently for “Parley Pratt, the Broken Planet of Paradise Lost, and the Creation of Mormon Theology” in Milton Studies 58. He is also the winner of the 1996 Clauss Prize for Teaching Excellence in the Humanities at Yale.
