In Memoriam: Professor Andy Silber
It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Professor Andy Silber died last Monday the 19th August. Andy first came to the University of Toronto as a doctoral student, completing his thesis on Akenside's _The Pleasures of
Imagination_ under the supervision of Kenneth MacLean. He joined the English Department of Victoria College in 1967, beginning a long and mutually enriching association with Victoria that continued after his formal retirement thirty-six years later. Believing strongly in the importance of attracting and nurturing able undergraduates, he devoted
many hours over many years to assisting in the University's National Scholars program. Beyond the University, his great enthusiasm was the art of dance and the National Ballet, with a special interest in the Ballet School and the training of young dancers. The funeral will be private but I will keep you posted on plans for a memorial service.
