Victoria University Confers Honorary Degrees

We are delighted to announce that earlier this month, Victoria University in the University of Toronto granted honorary degrees to two University of Toronto alumni. The Honourable Michael H Wilson, Chancellor, conferred the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters upon Andromache Karakatsanis and Carole Taylor, at Victoria University's Orientation Convocation on Wednesday, September 5th, 2012. The Honorable Madam Justice Andromache Karakatsanis received her BA from the University of Toronto (Victoria College) in 1977, and in 2011 became the first Greek-Canadian appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada. Justice Karakatsanis received the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators Medal (SOAR) in 1996 for outstanding service to the province's administrative justice system, and in 2011 received the HSBC Great Canadian Women Award. Carole Taylor, a distinguished journalist, received her BA from the University of Toronto (Victoria College) in 1967, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2001, and presently serves as Chancellor at Simon Fraser University. Dr. Taylor has received honorary degrees from Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Institute of Technology, British Columbia Open University, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Congratulations to Justice Karakatsanis and Dr. Taylor for their achievements!
