British Literature: Medieval to Romantic

Brief Description of Course: An introductory survey of the literature written in and around the British Isles from about 1200 to 1800. The course will focus on introducing the study of canonical works, but we will also contemplate the difficulties and opportunities of thinking about literature as both a historical and aesthetic category.

Method of Evaluation: Shorter paper; longer paper; mid-term test; exam; quizzes; and participation.
