Brief Description of Course:
This course is a special study of the major poets of the modernist period, W. B. Yeats, Ezra Pound, T. S. Eliot, and Wallace Stevens, with other selections from Gerard Manley Hopkins, William Carlos Williams, W. H. Auden and Elizabeth Bishop. The course aims to provide students with an in-depth engagement with some of their most significant works and a critical understanding of their poetic theories, modes, and techniques, as well as their intellectual and cultural perspectives. The course also aims to help students develop skills in close reading and build confidence in critical interpretation and judgment.
