Contemporary Poetry

Brief Description of Course: This course introduces the work of contemporary poets such as Creeley, Larkin, Heaney, Ashbery, and Duffy, as well as more recent poetic styles and movements. It aims to provide a critical engagement with representative and significant works in contemporary poetry, as well as their intellectual and cultural perspectives. The course also aims to help students develop skills in close reading and build confidence in critical interpretation and judgment.

Required Reading: Texts to be accessed online and through the Robarts Library e-resources.

First Three Authors/Texts: TBA.

Method of Evaluation: Informed participation, short essay, major essay, final test.
