Brief Description of Course:This course focuses on the fundamentals of academic writing, and puts particular emphasis on critical thinking, persuasive argumentation, and attentive reading. You will learn the principles of writing clear and effective prose that will help you throughout your academic life and beyond. We will practice writing for a variety of situations, including everything from emails and class notes to exams and essays. To this end, we will engage each stage of the writing process, including pre-writing, writing, and post-writing revisions, and will develop writing exercises that help you develop and hone these important skills.

Method of Evaluation: Five short assignments/quizzes (15%); Midterm test (15%); Term essay (40%); Final exam (20%)
