Brief Description of Course: An in-depth study of the poetic achievement of W. B. Yeats, giving equal attention to his poetics, his personal mythologies, and to the social and political worlds that shaped and were shaped by his work. Key prose and dramatic works will also receive consideration.Required Reading: Yeats, The Collected Works of W. B.Yeats: Volume I, The Poems (Scribner; second edition ed. Finneran); Course Reader (selected prose and plays).

First Three Authors/Texts: Poems from Crossways and The Rose.

Method of Instruction: Seminar

Method of Evaluation: Short essay (20%), seminar presentation (20 min + Q&A) (15%), essay proposal with annotated bibliography (10%), research essay (40%), participation (15%).
