Brief Description of Course: Using a combination of in-class and take-home assignments, this course will help students fromdiverse disciplines develop their ability to think critically and write clearly. The course will giveparticular emphasis to the writing process, with a series of assignments designed to guide students from brainstorming, outlining, and structuring; through composition, revision, and proofreading;to the production of a polished final draft. This course will involve regular writing assignments in which the rhetorical tools and strategies covered in-class will be put into practice. The format of the course will be collaborative and highly participatory, rather than lecture-based.

Required Reading: The McGraw Hill Handbook, Canadian Edition. Deirdre Flynn, Elaine Maimon, Janice Peritz, and Kathleen Yancey.

Method of Evaluation: Video analysis assignment (10%); critical response assignment (15%); argumentation assignment) (20%); in-class writing exercises (10%); two grammar quizzes  (10%); participation (15%); final exam (20%).
