Introduction to British Literature 2

Brief Description of Course: Introduction to British Literature (18th-c, Romanticism, Victorian, Modernism, and Postwar). Students will gain experience with a wide range of genres, forms, and contexts. Course will be organized around broad themes of comparison across historical periods and contexts: art & beauty; nature and culture; and modernity. 

Attendance in tutorial comprises 50% of total course grade.

Required Reading:  Broadview Anthology of British Literature, Concise Vol B, 3e; Northanger Abbey (Jane Austen); On Beauty (Zadie Smith)

First Three Authors/Texts: TBA

Method of Instruction: Lecture and tutorials

Method of Evaluation: Quizzes (30%), reading journals (30%), literary essay (20%), participation (10%), presentation (10%)
