Description
Join us for a special literary event celebrating the work and international influence of renowned poet and scholar George Elliott Clarke.
In George Elliott Clarke, Translated, George will present readings that demonstrate the global reach of his poetry. He will be joined by native speakers of Chinese, Romanian, Italian, and Bangla, each offering brief readings in their respective languages that represent those into which George's poetry has been translated and published--in Beijing (2006), Oradea (2006), Venice (2012), and Dhaka (2025).
The heart of the event will feature George’s own reading and a lively, engaging conversation with the audience — a chance to experience firsthand the power, music, and global resonance of his art.
The event will also honour and reflect on Caesar Blake, the first Black faculty member in the department who passed away in 2023.
We look forward to sharing this celebration of poetic voice, translation, and cultural connection.
Please RSVP here.
