Biography
Braden Chu (he/him) received an Honours BA in English, Classical Civilization, and Ancient Greek at the University of Toronto in 2024. He focuses on representations of gender performativity and queerness in Medieval literature, and is interested in writers such as Marie de France and Margery Kempe, as well as receptions of writers of the Ancient Mediterranean such as Sappho and Ovid. More specifically, he is interested in literary depictions of transfemininity and homosexuality in Medieval romance and their ramifications on our understandings of European ideas about gender and sexuality in the Middle Ages. His work is also informed by his personal experience as a drag performer.
