A postdoctoral fellowship constitues an important stage in the transition from graduate student to independent scholar. Postdoctoral fellows are, in essence, trainees who contract with the University to provide their services in exchange for developmental opportunities provided by the University.
The Department of English Postdoctoral Fellowship is a one-year fellowship with teaching responsibilities for recent graduates of the PhD Program in English. The fellow pursues their research and scholarly activities with guidance from a supervisor from among the Graduate Faculty of the Department of English and teaches two undergraduate half-courses.
Application information for the following year’s Department of English Postdoctoral Fellowship will be circulated each September. To be eligible to apply for the fellowship, you must have completed or be completing your PhD in the U of T Department of English, and the announcement will specify the application deadline, the possible start dates of the one-year fellowship, and the time window in which your Final Oral Examination must have occurred in order for you to be eligible to hold the fellowship.
Selection prioritizes the undergraduate teaching needs of the St. George Department of English, but applications in all fields of English are welcome.
