  • Eligibility: Open to third and fourth year students enrolled in the English Specialist, Major, or Minor programs.

Course Description: 

In this course, upper-year students will participate in partnership-based academic internships offered by a range of non-profit and for-profit organizations in various cultural and commercial fields. Students will acquire practical and professional experience while contributing their own critical and communicative skills in a workplace setting. The course includes 80-90 hours of internship with a partner organization, 4-5 in-class meetings, and a final written assignment.

Admission Requirements:

  • 14.0 credits, including ENG202H1, ENG203H1, ENG250H1, ENG252H1, and an additional 2.0 ENG credits.
  • CV/Resume.
  • Unofficial transcript downloaded from ACORN.

How to Apply:

Interested students can apply for ENG400H1 by filling out the application form by May 15, 2025 and submitting their resume and unofficial transcript to Vanessa Andres, Undergraduate Advisor at english.undergraduate@utoronto.ca. Notification of acceptance into the course will be emailed to applicants by July 1, 2025.

  • Notification of Available Course Projects with Partner Organizations:  October 1, 2025
  • Notification of “Match” with Partner Organization:  November 1, 2025
  • Introduction of Student & Partner:  no later than the first week of class
  • Student On-Boarding: to be scheduled at the Partner's discretion; but no later than the second week of class
