Areas of Interest

I am interested in applying cultural criticism and feminist theory to analyze medieval and Renaissance literature, seeking to understand texts in light of the authors’ social, political, and religious environments. I am particularly interested in medieval women mystics, such as Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe, and their contributions to literature and theology. I am fascinated by the ways in which their writing, both in act and subject matter, subverted patriarchal social and religious norms. Their authoritative theological reflections hold power in a religious tradition that often restricted women from Biblical exegesis and teaching.

Biography
