Course Description:
A creative writing workshop in multiple genres. Students will submit their work on a regular basis for group discussion and workshopping.

F-Term Course Description

A sustainable creative writing practice operates in a cycle of writing, reading, revising, and sharing. In addition to workshopping, we focus on developing necessary capacities or traits that are essential to your success as a writer in the program and beyond. These capacities include self-discipline, curiosity, risk, vulnerability, empathy, courage, etc.

S-Term Course Description

As we workshop your writing this term, you’ll also have the chance to revise material and to develop your skills of authorial self-presentation. Meanwhile, we’ll consider contemporary literary culture and the publishing industry by way of readings, discussion, and guest speakers.

F-Term Components (50% of your course grade) (September 2023 to December 2023)

  • Workshops and in-class activities: 30%
  • 2 x 7/7 Project: 15%
  • Iceberg Revision: 15%
  • Blurb and Review: 15%
  • Final Portfolio: 35%

S-Term Components (50% of your course grade) (January 2024 to April 2024)

  • Class participation (20%),
  • written peer feedback (5%),
  • workshop submissions (20%),
  • presentation (10%),
  • portfolio and preface (45%)
